Seeing as this is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada I wanted to give thanks to the things I most appreciate about working from home:

Not having to go out on those freezing cold winter days to warm up a car or wait at a bus stop to get to work. And then have to do it all over again when the day is over.

My own desk.

Not that I wouldn’t have a desk to work at somewhere else, just that it wouldn’t be MY desk. I love my desk. It’s actually real wood, not particleboard, not plastic and not cheap standard office issue. It’s a beautiful hardwood desk that is just the right size for me with a non-office type lamp, located under a window that looks out onto a peaceful view of trees.

My schedule.

Gone are the days when mid morning breaks (not to mention mid afternoon breaks) are always at the same time, spent listening to the same people discuss the same gossip and office politics. My breaks are usually taken outdoors, in my backyard, where it’s peaceful – except for the birds, I do have to listen to a lot of bird gossip. Since I don’t understand what they’re chirping about, I don’t worry about it.

Concentration and focus.

It is so much easier to totally immerse yourself in your work when you are free of interruptions from others and don’t have the background noise of numerous workers and their computers in the same room. Background music – my choice!

My team.

Those that I work with remotely, the DemGen team. They are the best! Always there if and when I need backup and a nicer, more cheerful bunch you will never find.

Happy Thanksgiving!
