Becoming your own boss has many advantages. For myself, being the Social Media/ Marketing Manager for Demgen inc. offers me the freedom to work the hours I want from the comfort of my home office, while also spending quality time with my little girl on her off days from school.  Life is good! BUT..yes there is a BUT..although being an entrepreneur works well for some, others may not be  aware what this involves.  You CAN do it! Here are a few things that will help you along the way to becoming free of the daily 9-5.

1) Sprinkle a little “fearless” into your life.  income as an entrepreneur can be unpredictable at times. BUT if you truly believe you have a product to sell, and the passion behind it, that unpredictable income can easily become steady cash flow, and the personal satisfaction of knowing you got there yourself cannot be matched.

2) Get noticed right out of the gates!  A strong Social Media presence is now a must in order to get noticed in the vast real estate we call the world wide web.  People need to find your needle in the haystack when looking for a business or service.  Use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Podcast.com, and You Tube (to name a few) to really lay down the ground work for your business.  There are numerous tutorials online that can help you make the most of these social media tools.  Reach out to others online and AVOID any hard sell tactics, this could easily ruin any chance you have at creating lasting business relationships.

3) Organize and prioritize.  Starting your own business can get harry, especially when working from home, because now not only are you managing your time as an entrepreneur, you are managing your time as a stay at home parent, contending with phone, TV, personal e-mail distractions.  So work on organizing and prioritizing your time to each days tasks.  Try not to take too much on at once or your mind may start to wonder. (speaking from first hand experience)

4) CONFIDENCE! It’s as simple as that.  This will come across to everyone you are in touch with as a business person.  Nobody will believe in someone if they do not believe in themselves (or the product/service they are providing)

5) Think BIG thing CREATIVE.  Go where no businessman or woman has gone before in your concept and approach to marketing your product or service.  Your prospective clients have seen it all before so give them something new and fresh. Try different marketing plans and find out what works and what doesn’t…make mistakes…LEARN! GET BETTER!

I welcome your feedback and would love to hear your entrepreneur stories!
